The Union Budget for the year 2026–2027 was released on 1 February 2026 by the Finance Minister of the Union Government Nirmala Sitharaman. In the 2020-21 Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare has been allocated Rs.1,31,531 crore. The government has given a clear signal to rural India that it is committed to its their cause.
Bharat-VISTAAR is a new and improved multimodal (many) AI-supported digital tool launched in the Union Budget 2026-27. It can be used to consolidate AgriStack data with ICAR methods and provide tailored assistance to farmers based on personal circumstances and farming practices.
Farmers will have greater productivity, better decision-making capacity, and reduced risks because they will receive technology-supported, region-specific guidance on farming techniques in four languages.
Union Budge is encouraging the cultivation of agricultural products such as coconut, cashew nuts, cocoa, and sandalwood in coastal areas; agar trees in Northeast India; and almonds, walnuts, and pine nuts in mountainous areas are all considered high-value crops. This is considered high value agriculture.
Livestock and fishing will be instrumental to increase productivity, generate employment opportunities to provide for rural communities, improve export-oriented products, and develop infrastructure supporting both the livestock and fisheries industries (such as building value chains and veterinarian services).
SHE Marts will provide community-owned retail stores in every district where self-help groups or rural women will have the opportunity to sell directly to customers, thus creating opportunities for them to become self-employed through entrepreneurial activities.
In the 2025 Union Budget, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the launch of the 'Rural Prosperity and Resilience' programme. This is a collaborative initiative with state governments. This programme aims to enhance agricultural productivity, promote sustainable practices, and improve the livelihoods of rural communities.
The key components of this programme include adopting modern farming techniques, diversifying crops, developing post-harvest storage facilities, improving irrigation infrastructure, and facilitating access to credit for farmers. The initiative is expected to directly benefit 1.7 crore farmers, fostering inclusive growth and strengthening the rural economy.
